What To Do Before You Reach Us
A few minutes of smart first aid can protect your tooth while you head to our office.
For a knocked-out tooth, pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently and place it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in a cup of milk. A tooth replanted within the hour has the best chance of survival. For a cracked or broken tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water and use a cold compress on your cheek to limit swelling. For severe toothache, floss gently to remove any trapped food and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum, which can burn the tissue.

Are you open 24 hours or on weekends?
No. Our Mission Viejo office is open Monday to Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM and Friday 8 AM to 3 PM. Call as early as you can and we will arrange a same-day appointment whenever possible. For after-hours emergencies with facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that will not stop, go to the nearest emergency room first.
Can I be seen the same day?
In most cases, yes. Call (949) 586-5669 and describe your symptoms. We prioritize emergencies and arrange same-day appointments whenever possible.
Should I go to the ER or the dentist?
Go to the ER for trouble breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a possible jaw fracture. For tooth pain, broken teeth, lost fillings, and most swelling, an emergency dentist treats the actual cause, which a hospital usually cannot.
My tooth got knocked out. Can it be saved?
Often, yes, if you act fast. Keep the tooth moist, ideally back in its socket or in milk, and get to us within the hour. The sooner the tooth is replanted, the better its chances.
Will you stop my pain at the first visit?
That is the goal of the first visit. We diagnose the cause with on-site imaging, then work to relieve the pain and stabilize the problem. Any larger treatment is planned with you before it starts.
